What is Velokos?

Velokos is a resource site for bicycling and bicyclists of all types. We love biking, and we like bike stuff. Our aim is to be a pertinent resource for information on biking, including bicycle politics, trends, art and events, and more, in and around Denver, Colorado, the US, and world wide. Our coverage might extend overseas, or anywhere we find an interesting bicycle story. We write on current events, issues that we think are interesting or that concern the biking community as a whole.

We are fun loving, irreverent at times, and we poke fun at cycling. We reject the sacrosanct attitudes that can accompany the term, "I am a cyclist". We try to avoid the mass identity crisis, merchandising uber-light parts, over marketing, that we feel has overtaken some of the pure fun of cycling. We try to avoid that on our rides at least! We can laugh at ourselves too, by bringing some humor to the sport. If you see something that raises your ire or awareness, we are doing our job. We understand that our cars are clumsy, inefficient, dirty beasts, that we all rely on, whether you drive a car of not. We need our cars, still...but we still hack on cars as much as we can.

Our articles are sprinkled with a liberal dose of attitudes and opinion, while remaining, informational and pertinent for all. Whether you are a hardcore cyclist, city rider, or a weekend warrior. We map routes we like, and offer them here for other riders to see. You can also find bicycle Ëvents that are happening in and around Colorado, and we will post your event for free.

We like handmade bikes and parts that are made in Colorado, and made in U.S.A. We believe in buying American made, when the item is made well. After that, we'll go outside the country to discover bikes and parts, and ideas. We might be hypocrites sometimes. If you think we are, call us on it. We try our best! Finally, "Velokos" is a play on words, derived from a combination of Latin and Greek. The latin root "velo" refers to speed, and is almost always associated with bicycles. The postfix, "kos" just made it sound cool, and the domain was open.
