STOLEN BIKE IN PORTLAND

On the morning of Thursday, April 11 the Littleford Expedition rig, shown 2 months ago at NAHBS, was stolen from where it was locked, on camera, in front of the downtown courthouse, in Portland, OR. The bike was there for just over an hour. Please read below.

I spent two very hard months designing and building this prototype expedition bike for the show. It is one of a kind. Please see attached photos and keep an eye out for either the whole bike, or for some key components that may be parted out: Schmidt SON SL dynamo hub (currently with Velocity Aeroheat rim) Schmidt Edelux dynamo headlight (brushed finish. These come from the factory ...   read more...

Nord Bicycles Hand Built in Colorado Springs

I met David (Nordy) Nordstrom at North American Handmade Bicycle Show 2013. I liked his colors and his ethos. In my view, his approach to bikes and cycling is one of pragmatism; a view I share, (and continually have to remind myself of, in a techno-crazed cycling world). Most of us aren't elite racers, despite what an elite mob of world-wide marketing firms would have us believe about ourselves!

Nord represents an approach to design and craft that I appreciate. His bikes are more craft than art, although they are certainly beautiful as well. His tendency favors utility, more than performance. Keep it real, keep it affordable, Keep it well made and accessible to a common rider and ...   read more...

Best New Builder - Yea Josh!

Josh Culbertson, of Avery County Cycles, who's bicycle shop is located here in the Berkeley neighborhood of North Highlands, in Denver, Colorado, won the North American Handmade Bicycle Show 2013, Best New Builder away. Congratulations to Josh. I call his bike "Denver Denim" because of its Faded denim matte color, and the copper "rivet" look of all the finished parts. Take a look.

The King Cage Machine

This is Ron Andrews, (duh, not Ron King!), making the King Bike Bottle Cage at the 2013 North American Handmade Bicycle Show. This is one of the things I love about Americans...we're good at making things. The King Cage, www.kingcage.com, is very simple, and made right here in America. Take a look.

The Littleford Bike by Bicycle Maker Jon Littleford

I attended the North American Handmade Bicycle Show on Friday, hosted this year in Denver, Colorado. It was like being a kid at my favorite toy store. I met friends from Denver, and California, and met new people who are destined to be friends in the future. On to some bikes.

I am calling the Littleford Expedition Rig my,  "Best in Show". Mr. Jon Littleford's simple and rugged bike is beautiful. At first glance, it's just another touring bike. A closer inspection reveals layered details that integrate throughout the bike's design, and probably those of its maker. www.littlefordbicycles.com

Meet The Hamilton's

Could it be that Tyler is related to Alexander? I'd say there are distinct possibilities here. They're both from the east coast, well, Alexander, the West Indies & Tyler, Massachusetts. Certainly they could be related by style, both having a distinguished look of prestige. What note would we put Tyler on, the Bike Note, and in what denomination?

I saw a good interview of Tyler Hamilton on Leno the other day, where he talked about doping, and Lance, and cycling... but after the interview, I kept seeing Alexander Hamilton on the ten dollar bill, bouncing around in my head...so I finally looked looked him up on Google, and sure enough.

There is a ...   read more...
