24 Hour Road Safety Response Time

Jefferson County Road and Bridge - Contact List & Map

District Manager, Andy Rohwer, attended a Bike Jeffco meeting in January, and kindly provided the contact list of Jefferson County Road and Bridge District Managers who are responsible for county road safety maintenance. The District Managers are in charge of fixing pot holes, and maintaining road safety throughout the county. See Jeffco District Map and contact list below.


Andy said that the Road and Bridge Department has 24 hours to remedy a road safety condition that is reported to one of the four district managers. Potential safety issues include potholes, utility covers that are uneven or sunken, (1/4 inch tolerance!), debris, sandy shoulders, etc.

Our Safety on Denver’s Roads and Trails is at Stake

Peace, Love and Rolling Stock

We get glimpses of the reality of the state of world affairs from time to time. Living in the the city, and here in Colorado, often provides the curious with images that are unusual. This train, loaded with Bradley  Armored Personnel Carriers, (APC's), similar to those used in Iraq and Afghanistan, rolls slowly past, as Cian and I did one of our lunch-time rides today. Of course Cian couldn't resist the paradox...

I've inherited a love affair with automobiles?

Definition: Heritage 'heritij' -Valued objects and qualities such as cultural traditions, unspoiled countryside, and historic buildings that have been passed down.

The problem is that I don't value the object anymore, because of its inherent inefficiency, and because it is part of the overall problem. The cost of petroleum and the automobile is to high, when you factor in ALL the costs and overhead. The true expense to the human experience, including: Environmental degradation, war politics, human effort and financial burden!

Over the weekend I attended an "open house" at Wheat Ridge Cyclery, hosted by the Jefferson County Transportation and Engineering Division, and team member Will Kerns. It is his vision to extend the bicycle and pedestrian trail system, which includes various types of access, including off street trails, on street, paved shoulders and bike lanes, etc. Public comment is vital for this type of plan to progress, and Public comment Period closes on Jan. 31st. Will and Jefferson county invite and encourage public comment now! Make your views known!
