A Bicycle Runs Through It

Because I can. My bikes are my pets, I guess. They get to live in the living room, but they aren't allowed on the couch! I have to draw the line somewhere. I tinker, adjust, stare, clean, oil, rant, redesign, etc. They are sort of family members...thank god they don't talk or eat!

My custom bicycles, top, city single, bottom, Flicker

I just added my Flicker to my bike fleet. I'll talk more about the Flicker build in a later post, with build specs, kit and ride commentary...and some close-up photos.

This is another good run from Highlands, down the Platte, to the Bear Creek Trail cutoff, (right by Paul's Bike Shop), and back. A good afternoon ride, pretty flat, so work on your speed, efficiency and spin. 23.6 Miles

This is a good flat warm-down, fast or cruise ride. It is mostly flat. Cherry Creek trail is crowded on weekends, until you hop onto the Highline Canal trail. Then it gets very quiet.

My New Frame Set

This is my new road frame set, built by Flicker Bicycle Company. The geometry is tight, with a slightly soft rear end, and very turney, short wheel base. It will be kitted with a mostly Campagnolo drive train, SRAM Red cranks, and a few other specialized parts that I like, or that are my sponsors....Velocity wheel set and of course a Brooks titanium B17 saddle.

The completed, custom steel frame, with custom unicrown fork, built up has a ...   read more...

Highlands to Platte Triangle

My son named this ride because of its shape on the map. This is a fairly flat, ride that is mostly on paved metro trails, and follows a river most of the way, until you leave the Platte, heading toward Highlands. This is one of my after work, evening rides.

This is a very pretty trail in the Spring and Summer. It gets pretty industrial as you enter town from the north. I kind of like the trains and scenery along the trail though. There is a water treatment plant, and lots of industrial installations, but it is still pretty, and a nice ride. The Sand Creek trail heads to the East.

A Shopping Adventure

Shopping for a new bike seems like it would be a pure fun adventure, right?

You head out to one of your local bike shops and discover, not only are there a dizzying array of bicycle types, models, makers, materials, sizes and price points...there are even more advisors, opinions, attitudes, technical details, fit options, etc. It becomes a cacophony of information that can be daunting to anyone. Below are some of my ethics when shopping for new equipment-bicycle or otherwise.

It is easy to get caught up in the techno, marketing hype when shopping for a bike. Just remember some of these ideas when shopping, and you'll survive the experience with a smile, and surely a bike you love love love. Also read "read more...
